THIS MONTH IS:  FATHER'S DAY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "I want to congratulate all of the men out there who are working diligently to be good fathers whether they are stepfathers, or biological fathers or just spiritual fathers."  T.D. Jakes

My siblings are weird.  They don't bark.  They whine "meow".  They slink and sneak around and jump on furniture and counters.  I am allowed on furniture but not counters.  And oh how I have tried to get up on a counter.  Sorry dad.

When Mickey and Minnie are outside on the porch and they hear that noisy machine in the house that sucks up dirt and hair and whatever else it goes over, the cats run into the house where the machine is.  Don't they know they are safer outside?  Dumb cats.  I am not afraid of that machine.  I used to try and play with it, but mom quickly nixed that idea.

My sibs play a game with dad for their evening treats.  They meow and whine and then dad throws a treat on the floor and they chase it.  Me.  I sit pretty and dad just gives me my treat with no tricks.  Again, dumb cats.

Of the two, Minnie seems to be the smarter and braver one.  She drinks out of MY water bowl.  She's even stuck her face in a bowl mom has obviously placed on the floor for me.  That's okay because I've already licked the bowl clean.  I like cleaning the dishes and helping mom out.  Minnie likes to sniff me.  Sometimes we are nose to nose.  I like her.  She is so cute and playful.

Minnie doesn't seem to mind too much when I chase her.  Sometimes she stops running and rolls over on her back.  That's a sign she wants to play.  But when I put my paw on her tummy, mom yells at me.  She said I could hurt Minnie.

Mickey always hisses at me so I don't chase him a lot.  When I do, he jumps on furniture I can't reach or he hides under the bed.  He also bats his paw at me and hits my nose.  Mom laughs so I let him do it.  And all the while I'm thinking if I swat back at him, he will go flying across the room.  I wonder if mom would laugh then.

Thunder is really scarry.  I hide under mom's or dad's desk.  The cats roam around like it's nothing.  Let them get hurt by thunder.  I know I'll be safe.

I HAVE ANOTHER SIBLING

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "This is my simple religion.  There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy.  Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.  Dalai Lama

In 1844 on this day the end of the world according to religious followers of William Miller who supposedly gave away their earthy possessions in preparation for the event was supposed to have occurred.

Do you all know I have another sibling?  He's my brother and his name is Mickey.  He's all black with a white tuft under his chin.  Mom found him in a neighbor's garage several years ago and felt sorry for him.

He thinks he's perfect and king of the castle the way he struts around and sits on the counters regally.

I think he's afraid of me because when I chase him, he runs real fast and jumps on the highest and closest piece of furniture he can reach.

He likes to sit on mom's lap and ignore me when I am laying right next to mom.   He must think she's going to protect him from me.  He'll occasionally walk right in front of me to get to dad's lap, but he always rushes.  Mickey is such a wimp.

He spends his day in thirds.  One-third waiting for a meal, one-third sleeping, and one-third sitting on the counter waiting for treats.

As far as felines go, I like Minnie better.  Mickey likes to see me get into trouble.  He's always whining and complaining about something.  He can be very loud and obnoxious.

He does have his funny moments though.  Like he forgets where his litter box is.  He had been peeing in the shower for weeks and weeks.  And then one day he just stopped.  Kitty dementia?  A while ago dad brought out the electric frying pan, took off the cover and left it on the island a place where my siblings are supposedly not allowed on.  A while later mom went into the kitchen and saw yellow liquid in the frying pan.  Yup.  Mickey peed in it.  I laughed and laughed because he got into trouble.

Not so perfect, are you Mick?

THIS IS:  Aids Awareness Month, National Tie Month and Universal Human Rights Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "The greater love is a mother's; then comes a dog's; then a sweetheart's."  Polish Proverb

Several months ago, mom promised she'd be able to take me for a walk by the end of the year.  It ain't happening.  Although her walking has improved, it hasn't been enough to handle me.  She's still learning to walk again.

However, she did promise to take me on a bike ride with her.  She kept her promise.

It's so fun trotting along side mom while she pedals.  Her bike is a nifty vehicle.  It's a cherry red recumbent three wheeler bike with a basket in the rear.  I don't fit in the basket like Beverly's little poodles do in hers.

Mom tells me not to be distracted by cats, birds, worms, squirrels, other dogs and people.  Oh, and ants.  But I can't help looking back to make sure mom's friend Marsha is keeping up with us.

And the time we were riding past Beauty's home.  Her mom Sue was out talking to a friend and they saw us go by.  Beauty's mom called out my name.  I'm not one to ignore a friend so I stopped, turned around and pulled mom in the bike backwards several feet.  That was kind of funny.

Or the time I saw the dog run and started to run at close to full speed.  Mom couldn't grab the brake handle quick enough and we almost ran into the fence.  (I really had to pee.)

But mom loves me in spite of my faults and she laughs about the mishaps later.  Mom is so forgiving.

I love going for bike rides with mom.  I don't mean to do anything to spoil it, but I know mom will forgive me and WE WILL RIDE AGAIN!

MY SISTER MINNIE

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance, everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him."
                                                                                                         Dereke Bruce

TODAY IS:  Video games day, and THIS IS: World Animal Remembrance, Self Improvement and Healthy Aging Month

My sister, Minnie, is a great little hunter.    She captures lizards by the dozens.   Mom and dad try to save them.  Minnie makes one  mistake in that she announces she has caught one as she brings is into the house.   Mom knows that cry, and yells, "Don.  Minnie has a lizard."    Minnie then drops it and, and the lizard runs for its life.

If dad is lucky enough to catch the lizard, he lets it loose outside.  If not, Minnie runs them ragged.
The tail is the first thing to go.  The lizard runs and Minnie gives chase.   Mom and dad find the lizard tails in the bathtub  and on the floor in several rooms.  They find the dead lizards a few days later.   Sometimes they are found under the bathroom scale, but most are found in the dining room under the table.

The other day,mom told Minnie, "If you don't stop bringing in lizards, you are going to lose your outdoor privileges. "

Did Minnie listen?  Of course not.  She's too cute and not deterred.  But she's not outside in the grass or anything. She's on the screened-in back porch where lizards sneak in.  In the morning,  Minnie  sits by the back door and whines until mom lets her out. Minnie is proud of her catches and prances around a bit until she lets one go  and gives chase.

My brother, Mickey, on the other hand, would rather stay indoors sleep.  He is older, after all.  Like 14 years old.  On occasion he may play with a toy or bat a bathrobe belt, but he's happy just laying around on furniture or laps.  He's a lap cat,  Minnie is not.

But Minnie has that sweet, can do no wrong look. Even I succumb to it.  Mom is putty in Minnie's paws, dad not so much.

Here's an example.  Minnie is not supposed to be on the kitchen island.  The stovetop is there, and she could get burnt.  But when Mom sees her up there, she says, "Minnie, you know you're not allowed on the island."  Minnie will put on her cute face and rub against mom's arm or face.  And she stays where she is.  If mom doesn't help Minnie scoot off the island, Dad comes out and pushes her down.

In all fairness, though, I have to admit that Minnie, the grey and peach Hemmingway, is adorable.  She'll come up to me and sniff at me, then walk away.  If that isn't an invitation to play, I don't know what is.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "The middle of the road is for yellow lines and armadillos."     Jim Hightower

THIS IS:  It's National Dog Days and National grilling, hot dog and ice cream month

A few nights ago, mom dad and me went for a walk.  When we got near this one house,   we usually see one or two cats who run away when they see me. I don't know why.  They have a dog as a sibling.

Then, one night something strange happened.  The cats morphed into an entirely different species.  They were about the same size, but they had shorter legs and no fur.  I scared one away, who was rather slow, but the other one kept creeping closer to me and my family.    Mom tried to use her cane to force it into a different direction, but it just coming at us.  There was nothing to be afraid of, because I was there to protect my family.

Upon closer inspection,  I noticed that the animal was dark and had a hard shell.  Mom said, Look, it's an armadillo."

A what? I tried to get close to it to see if it wanted to play, but dad pulled me away. I fought a bit, but in the end, I gave in to dad.  With such a hard shell, I didn't think I could hurt it.  But dad was afraid it would hurt me.  How sweet.  Dad loves me.

I still would have liked play with it. Well, you win some you lose some.  That's the life of a dog.

EVERYTHING CHANGES EVENTUALLY

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much."  Mark Twain

THIS IS:  National Smile Month

Everything changes eventually.  I remember the fun I had at the small dog run every morning. Jesse,  Beauty, Buster and me would meet about 7:30.  It was fun. The moms would bring treats and we'd have a snack before breakfast.    We played chase and got some exercise.

My day got even better when mom took me for my daily walk.

In the evening, after supper, mom would take me to the big dog run where we'd meet Jesse. We would play chase again, .and then chased the squirrels up trees.  We came close,. but we  never caught one.

Then one morning, Jesse never came.   His mom and he went back went home.  Beauty must have changed her schedule, and Buster, who was the oldest, passed away.

Moms still took me for walks until one day she went out with dad and he didn't bring her home. After several weeks, he took me to see her. It was the big building with lots and lots of bedrooms. Dad called it a nursing home/rehab center.  As we walked the halls, people called out to him.  They wanted to pet me.  That was fun.  But when I got to mom's room, I jumped on the bed and gave her a ton of kisses.  I didn't leave her side. I  snuggled with her on the bed. Mom, dad  and to me went for a walk outside later. Dad pushed mom in this chair that had wheels.  She couldn't walk.  Oh my, another change.

Mom still can't walk well enough to take me for a walk on a leash, but dad takes mom and me for a walk around the block.  It's nice but very slow.  We still go to the big dog run, and I occasionally see other dogs there, and I can play with a few of them.   Some dogs don't like other dogs and other dogs are loners.  I love other dogs and look forward to playing with them.

But I really miss Jesse, and I hate it when things change.

MOM GOT A TAT

THIS IS:  National Stroke Awareness Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Never a failure, always a lesson"
                                                                                    Unknown

Mom Got a tat.  What is that, you make  ask?   Well, to those of us in the know, it's a tattoo.    Yeah, well into her senior years, and she does something a teenager would do.   It's been said, that as people get older their age actually reverts to that of a child or in general, younger years.

Mom claims there is a very good reason she got her tat. No, not to be cool, but to mark a spot on her knee where a medical device must be placed.

Since her stroke, mom has had a little trouble learning to walk again,  The device is called a Walk Aid, and it helps keep her foot from rolling sideways.   The electrical pulses zap the nerves  that go to the foot promoting better walk ability.

Anyway,  her tat is really cute.   Since she and dad are avid theme park fans, mom picked a head shot of Minnie Mouse for her tat and, it's in color.  It is really cute, but a mouse?  How about a dog like me, or a puppy paw.  I've seen dog tats on television on that show  Pit bulls and Parolees.  It seems they all sports a tat  of a pit bull.  Pit bulls are strong and fun to play with, but mom should have put me on her knee.

Maybe the next one.   I've heard her say that once you get your first tattoo, you'll want another one and she does.   She tried talking dad into getting one or at least getting a pierced ear, but he'll have none of that stuff.

I'm with mom on this one.  Some body art is trashy looking, but a meaningful piece of artwork in the right location is  good.   Just take a look at mom's right.

FRIENDSHIP

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "True friendship is like sound health, the value of it seldom known until it be lost. "     Charles Caleb Cotton

THIS IS:  Frog Month and National Pet Month

It was an interesting weekend here at the Cove.  Dad went to Dallas for a bridge tournament.   Mom had a friend stay with her for the weekend.  her friend came Thursday, night.   Denise and mom  have been friends for about forty years.  (Sure makes them sound old, doesn't it?)  They have not seen each other for 25 years.   They reconnected and had a ball.

Denise helped mom out, and she took me for a daily walk.  I loved it.  She gave me treats and lots of attention.  I could tell how much they miss each other a lot.  They hugged each other a bunch.

The phrase I heard  most was "Do you remember...?"
Then one of them would tell a story, and  they would laugh. There was a lot laughter.   One day they went out and came home  with all these bags.   But nothing was for me.  I guess there wasn't a pet store at the outlet mall.

Mom and Denise left the house Monday morning but mom came home with dad.  Denise must have went back home to her family.  I was so happy to see him, I missed him lots.

Dad was all happy and puffed out  at the chest.    He and his bridge  partner came in first in their division at the National Conference.  I am proud of my dad and happy for mom that she got to see her best friend.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Always remember to forget friends that proved untrue.  But never forgot to remember those that have stuck by you."
                                                  Irish Proverb

THIS IS:    Of the course, it's St. Patrick's Day, but it's also  National   Craft,  Kidney, and  Nutrition  Month

Mom and dad went on a seven day cruise and put me in the kennel again.  The cats get to stay home and have someone come in and take care of them.  Oh well, I love the kennel because I get play dates with the other dogs staying there.

I hate to brag, but I am the life of the party. I have so much fun playing chase and meeting new friends.   Sometimes it's a new group every day.  Other time a few of the same dogs are there. I love making new friends.

The thing I miss most about being home is that I miss mom dad.  The next thing is sleeping in the big bed with mom and dad.  It's so warm and comfortable on the mattress with the nice comforter to lay on.

The nights seems so long in the kennel, and no one makes popcorn.   Dad makes it several times a week after mom has gone to bed. I listen for the familiar sounds of the pan and the popping.   When it's done, I jump off the bed and join dad in the living room for a late night snack.  I love popcorn.   Dad sometimes throws me a kernel and I catch it.  I think it's a game. I play well because I like the  reward.

I get treats at the kennel, too.   But not popcorn.  They are usually boring regular dog treats. I like them of course, but sharing a bowl of popcorn with dad is so much better.  We had popcorn last night, and mom missed it did because she was sleeping.

I am really glad they're home.

CAN'T I DO ANYTHING RIGHT

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "The strawberry shampoo doesn't taste as good as it smells."  Unknown

THIS IS:  Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month

Seems I can't do anything right these days.  I'm getting scolded by both mom and dad lately.  Take this morning for example.  I got into the cats litter box again.  Dad was so mad.  He yelled and slapped my butt and wouldn't let me out of the room.  He lectured me.  When mom found out what I did, she lectured me too.  But mom pets me while she lectures.

I got yelled at for chasing the cats again.  Why can't I chase the cats?  All they do is run and jump onto something I can't reach.  I won't hurt them.  Besides, it keeps them on their toes.  And I swear they know it's only a game we're playing.

Yes, I bark.  I'm a dog.  I'm only doing what dogs naturally do.  I'm protecting my humans and my siblings and my property.   How do I know that the person driving by our home isn't a card carrying NRA member ready to take aim.  The UPS and FEDEX guys give us fair warning with their noisy vehicles.  How do I know the packages they leave aren't some sort of bomb?  It happens all the time on TV.  Maybe those weird people driving around in golf carts want to harm us.  Can we ever be sure we are completely safe?  I'm just doing my job.

Dad really yelled at me the other night.  I barked at a possible intruder.  Dad got up to investigate, and he found the mess I made on the porch.  There were torn up kleenix and napkins all over the floor.  Dad was really mad, but couldn't yell too loud because mom was sleeping.  I sorta feel bad for what I did, but give a dog a break...I have so much fun tearing up paper products.  I should be praised for not tearing up papers on the desks or coffee table,  I also leave books alone.

I admit, I am a repeat offender of all of the above.  I'm just doing my job when I bark.  I enjoy playing chase with the cats.  I can't resist Kleenix and napkins.  I'm well past the three strikes law.  Are mom and dad going to send me back to the SPCA?  I doubt it.  They haven't yet.  the cycle will continue.  Mom and dad have to remember I am just a dog doing my job.

THE TALK

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Cats motto:  No matter what you've done wrong, always try to make it look like the dog did it."
                                                                                    unknown

THIS IS:  Get a balanced life month.

Mom had the talk again with me over the weekend.  I tried getting on the back of the sofa again to walk on the window ledge like my siblings do.  Mom would have none of it.  I tried at least five times and each time she'd grab me by my collar and try to pull me off.  But ha!  I am stronger than mom's arm.  Being the good dog that I am, I decided to come down by myself.  This is what mom said to me.

"Daisy, sit."  I sat.  "You and your siblings are two different kinds of species."

"Not really, mom.  We all have tails, four legs, paws, wet noses and fur. "

"You're right, Daisy.  But your siblings are cats.  Cats usually don't like dogs, but these are two well-adjusted cats."

How can they not like dogs?  All we want to do is play with them.  You know the song Girls Just Wanna Have Fun?"

"That's an entirely different meaning,"  Mom said, seemingly getting annoyed with me.

"Dogs are usually so much larger than cats,"  mom continued, "Some dogs can get pretty rough.  You've swiped Mickey and Minnie before and you've knocked them down.  They are frightened."

"I don't mean to scare them.  Besides, they jump on things I cannot reach.  I just want them to know who's the boss around here."

"I am."

"Right.  I'm second then."

"No dad is."

"Then I'm third. "

Only if you don't hurt or scare your sibs."

"Oh, okay."

"So you won't try to get on the window ledge again, Daisy?"

"All I can promise is that I'll try not to."

"If that's the best you can do, we can work with that."

"Okay.  We're good then you and me.  You won't tell dad?"

"Yes Daisy.  We're good and I won't tell dad.  But he will read about it."

"Mom caved.  The puppy eyes worked.  I'll wait a few days and try again."

THE NEED TO VENT

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "The only disability in life is a bad attitude."  Scott Hamilton

THIS IS:  National Novel Writing Month, Adopt A Senior Pet Month, and Manatee Awareness Month

TODAY IS:  Have A Bad Day Day

Mom and Dad went on a nice vacation a few weeks ago to Las Vegas.  They had a great time, but they left me home.  That's okay, though, because they take me to this really nice place where I get play dates every day.  I love meeting new friends and showing first-timers the ropes.  I am always excited when Mom and Dad come to get me because I hate sleeping alone.

Mom  wants to write something now...she needs to vent.

Don and I went to Sea World a few evenings ago to see their Christmas shows.  A few nights later we went to Disney's Hollywood Studios to see the Christmas lights.     I didn't realize how difficult it was for him to push me in a wheelchair until I got my scooter and had to navigate the crowds myself.

One lady in particular at Sea World really ticked me off.   She cut in front of me and I almost ran into her.  She turned and gave me a nasty glare.  I said,  "I'm sorry I got your way maam." Then I went on my way.  I could feel her glare on my back.

Don says to just ignore those types of people.  This hard for me since I can be combative and very sarcastic.

One would think children would be the worst offenders, but, not so,  really the adults are worse.  Most kids say "Excuse me "and step out of the way than there parents.   One girl almost walked right in the front of me because she was too busy looking at her cell phone. Did she say anything like sorry or excuse me?  of course not.

Okay. I've had my say.

Mom does have a point.  People when you're in crowded places with  lots of stuff going on, please pay more attention to the people around you. You'll avoid getting hurt  or hurting someone else.

Love,
  Daisy

ROLE MODELS

THIS IS:  Adopt A Senior Pet Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."  Albert Camus

There are two other pets in this household.  And, they are sort of my of my role models.   One  of them, Mickey, doesn't like me very much. Whenever I walked past him,  he swats at me with his paw.  He doesn't realize  he is declawed.

The other pet, Minnie, likes me... I can tell. She comes up to me, and we are nose to nose.  She's pretty.  She is gray and peach and has a sweet face.   When I  chase them, Minnie knows it's playful.   Mickey's just plain afraid.

I watch them and learn from them. They are allowed on all the furniture and counters.   One day I saw Minnie on the back of the sofa, and on the window ledge.  When I try to do those things I get scolded.  Granted, the other pets are only 10 to 15 pounds, and I am a hefty 45  pounds.   I saw Mickey  on dad's desk.  I tried it and got a good scolding.   Mickey he still goes there, I don't.

I saw Minnie on an end table the porch.   Mom  grabbed my collar, pulled me off and told me NO several times when I tried it.  I don't get it.   On the other hand, mom and dad take me outdoors to do my business and let me run.  Those two other pets, don't get to go outside .  Ha!  They have to use an indoor  potty.   My favorite thing to do that those other two can't is to get up the sofa  and wrap my body around mom's back and snuggle up close.  I know Mom  likes it.

THE GREAT HUNTER

THIS IS:  Apple Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, AIDS Awareness Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY;  "In times of joy, all of us wished we possessed a tail we could wag.                                                                                                                         W.H. Auden

Whenever I am outside, I love to chase the gray creatures.   I used to chase lizards, but they are too fast and too small.  I leave that job to Minnie.  The gray creatures have cute, pointy ears and beautiful bushy tails. Mom and dad call them squirrels.

When we go to the dog run they are in abundance.   Sometime there are two or three of them, but mostly they are loners.   They are fast, but if they didn't have trees to run and hide in, I know I would catch one.

Mom says they like to tease me. They sit on a branch and start talking up a storm.   They are noisy.

There is also a brick fence that they run along. I chase them as far as I can then they jump on a tree.  I tried climbing a tree, but I don't get very high.

What would I do if I caught one?  Toss it up in the air, catch it, and strut around proud of the fact that I caught one.   Then I'd take it to mom.   She would be so proud of me.

I would try to make it squeak, too, just like the ones mom caught and brought home to me for being a good dog.   The ones mom brought home, have the same pointy ears and bushy tails  but they don't run when I go after them.  I wonder why?

MOM AND THE POO

THIS IS:  AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY:   "The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog."    Carrie Underwood

Mom keeps trying  to become more independent each day.  She likes to try new things to see if she can do them.   Her most recent effort didn't work out too well. She told dad she wanted to take me to the dog run on her own.  Dad  said he'd ride on the back of the golf can't and not help out at all.  And he didn't.   But he did laugh a lot.

Mom  has been driving the golf cart for a few months now with no problems navigating.   She's really good at it. It didn't surprise me or dad when we got to the run safely.

We pulled into the run and  mom had to close the gate.  she stepped out of the golf cart and waddled to the gate with me on my leash in tow.

Okay.  Mission accomplished.   I was let loose to run and chase squirrels.

When I stopped to do my duty,  mom hobbled over and picked it up in the familiar  green bag.  She couldn't close it with one hand,  and I heard dad say, "So now what are you going to do?" and he was laughing.  Somehow she got it right but she couldn't tie it.   She placed the bag in a cup holder until we could get the trash can.  Mom can now pick things up  without losing her balance. I think dad  was impressed when she picked up my poo.

Mom drove the golf cart and I ran back to gate.  However to get more exercise, mom turned the golf cart around and drove to the other end of the run again. I chased  more squirrels on my run back.

When we got back to the gate, mom got out of the cart, grabbed the bag, and walked a few steps to the trash can.  It is on an incline, and mom isn't walking too good on those yet,   especially without a cane.  Dad was laughing again and asked what she was going to do with it.  Mom said,  "Bring it home,  of course, for you to take care of."  Dad took the poo bag from mom and placed it in the trash can.

Mom then  put the leash on me, opened the gate, got me into the cart, and then we drove home.

All and all, I think mom did a good job, but I think it would be much easier for her to take me to the small run in the back near the recycling bins.   Dad agreed.

I gotta say, mom is trying real hard to help out, but I heard her say to dad,  "How  independent do I really want to be?"

WHAT NOT TO WEAR

THIS IS:  Happy Cat Month

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Don't be into trends.  Don't make fashion own you, but
you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.
                                                                                  Gianni Versace

Mom was watching Kelly and Michael the other morning when Howie Mandel came to the stage.    She couldn't believe her eyes.   He was wearing a pair of capris.  Where were the fashion police.    What designer made them for men?   When mom goes to a theme park,  she often sees men wearing capris.   She told me Brits seem to wear them the most.  Maybe that explains the trend.   It's not a good look for men. It just looks plain silly.  Mom says there are certain things a man should not wear.  Capris are one of them.   She said you see it all at theme parks.

Other no-nos:  How about stilettos.   Yes, Mom has seen woman heels.  I bet they don't go on the rides.  Or how about the shorts  (mostly women and a few men)  where the legs ride up to the crotch and get all bunched up.   Isn't that just a bit uncomfortable? How about the shorts that are too tight.  Women - look in the mirror at the rear, too.

Also, please wear clothes not pajamas.  I know PJs are comfortable, but to a theme park?  Really?  That's like wearing curlers to the supermarket.  Yeah, Mom has seen it all.

BAD DOG!!!

Quote of the day: "There's no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner." John Grogan (Marley and me)

This is:  feeding pets of the homeless week

I was a bad girl last night. Mom and dad went to the grocery store.  Before they left, dad "Daisy - proofed " the house.  He separated me and the cats, he hid the remote and mom's water bottle, and he covered the leather the sofa so I wouldn't scratch it up.

They forgot something though.  A few bottles of moms vitamins the left on the island. As soon as I saw the car pulled away, I got up on my hind legs, front paws on the island, to see what they left me. Usually, it's nothing, so I wait patiently until they get home.

I got one bottle down, but couldn't get it open.  Stupid security seals. I left that bottle on the floor and went for another.  I chewed the top off. These were called CoQ10.  They must be good.  Mom eats one every day.   Pretty purple capsules fell out. I tried one, not bad. I ate the entire bottle.  90 pills .

When dad came home and saw what I had done, he was furious. I've never been scolded like that before.  He scared me. I was kind of left to myself. I don't like mom and dad being mad at me.  While I was laying peacefully on the living room floor, my tummy gurgled. I threw up right there on the area rug. I went to dad, who was sitting at his desk, he started petting me. I think he was trying to make up with me. I threw up again.  This time on the chair floor pad and on the chairs wheels.  Dad calmly got up, went to the kitchen for paper towels, and cleaned up my mess. Mom was comforting me during cleanup. I really didn't feel very well.

Dad checked the Internet to see if the CoQ10 was toxic.  Apparently not.  But too much can cause vomiting and/or diarrhea.

I am always ashamed of myself after I do something bad, but my tummy hurt, and that was punishment enough.

Maybe I'll become famous if dad puts me on the web as one of the bad does with a sign that reads,
"I ate all of moms CoQ10.  I'm a bad dog."

SHOPPING FUN

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open ."   John Barrymore

THIS IS:  happiness happens month (www.sohp.com) Secret Society of Happy People

Several weeks ago, mom went shopping with daughter-in-law, Dani I will let her tell you about it.

Don and son Mike  took the kids,  Owen and Sydney, to the movies while Dani and I went to have a girls day and  shop and spend money. We arrived at the outlet mall a little before 10 o'clock , which I thought was early, but the parking lot was practically filled.

The first order of  yhe day was to get me settled in the wheelchair. Dani had to put the foot rests on.  Her first try was upside down and we giggled as we tried to picture me putting my feet upside down and her pushing me from store to store.  Dani got it right on the second try and we were on our way.

Where to start first.  There were so many shops. 126 according to the website.  We could do real damage to the credit cards.  Our first purchase was in Vera Bradley.   We stopped in the Guess store and I found a pretty black blouse.  We saw pull-up  jean's on the rack. They were so cute.   We took size large into the dressing room and that's when  the fun began. I tried on the first pair and couldn't get them up over my hips. Dani's turn and she had the same problem. It was too funny.   Two grown  women  trying on clothes sized for a 12-year-old.

It was kind of comical watching Dani  struggle to open a door  while keeping her hand on the wheelchair so I didn't go rolling backwards. The task is somewhat undefeatable without help.  But plenty of people offer their services and if they didn't, Dani would just ask a stranger for help.   Even at lunch, a stranger helped us out.  Every table was taken and Dani and I were   weighing our options when a woman at a table asked if we'd like hers.  She said she was getting ready to leave.  iI was perfect.

As we were leaving, I  took us to the wrong parking lot. Dani was pushing the wheelchair with her arms loaded with shopping bags from Aerosol and Coach. We both  bought shoes and purses.   (What woman in her right mind can pass up a 50% off sale, especially in Coach.)   What we didn't realize was that the wheelchair wheels were rubbing against the shopping bags and tearing them.  It had rained.  We got to the car and one bag completely fell apart.  The contents fell onto the wet pavement. Shoes  and a purse together with a receipt fell onto the road, and of course into a puddle.  A nice family walking by helped us pick up the boxes but I couldn't stop laughing. ( I'm laughing now picturing the scenario.")

It was a fun filled girl's day out of shopping and lunch.  We are already looking forward to next year's visit.

The ride home is another story.  Accidents, detours and not fun.

HELICOPTER OR VELCRO?

Quotes of the day: " A wise man adapts himself to circumstances as water shapes itself to the vessel that contain it." Chinese proverb

"Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune ."   William Jones

This is:  National Zoo Keeper week  ( July 21 through 27 )  Also, National Dog House Repairs,  Grilling,  Ice Cream,  Blueberry, and Hot Dog month

There are helicopter moms and Velcro dogs.  I am proud to announce that I am a Velcro dog.

I love mom and dad. I know they think I am a pain in the arf, arf, sometimes, but I'm just trying to protect them. I follow them all over the house just to make sure they are safe.

I follow my into the bathroom, and when it is shower time, I try to get in the stall, too.  Dad locks me out of the room.

When mom is walking around the house, I try to anticipate her destination. I know her routine so I am usually right.  Although she won't admit it.  I need to be near  mom in case she needs me.  Once, she fell on the porch. I laid next to her head so she could use my body as a pillow until someone came to help her up.

When it's my suppertime, I show her where my dry food is stored. I know she needs me for that. I walk so close to her that she can feel my fur tickle her legs.

When mom is alone in the house I am especially on guard. I hear a golf cart drive by and I bark and check the windows for intruders. I do the same when I hear a car drive by. When I see a person go by, I bark until they are out of sight to scare them away from the house.  Every now and then, mom's friend Jan comes to visit.  I am very excited for the company. Jan usually brings me treats.

Mom hasn't fallen a long time,so I must be doing something right to keep her out of trouble.

When mom sits on the sofa, I curl up behind her and wrapped my body around her. I know she likes that because she hugs and pets me.

When mom needs dad to come to her, she calls out " Don".  Just in case he didn't hear her, I bark until he comes to the room. I'm just trying to help. If he  doesn't come fast enough, I go and get him.( remember Lassie )

Sometimes I get scolded for doing these things, but lots of times I get hugs and pets and "good girl".
I am not going to stop looking after Mom.  She needs me to look after her like I need her to look after me. I think we make a pretty good team.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:  "Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you in the car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear."  Dave Barry

THIS IS:  Dog days of Summer (July 3
to August 11)

ARF,ARF, ARF. I was so excited last week to be going on a car trip.  It didn't even bother me that it was to the vet.

I was weighed in, had my heart listen to, had my ears and eyes checked, and then that stick was stuck up my rear. ARF, ARF, ARF.  I needed my kennel medication. It was stuck up my nose. I was none too happy with that.

I thought we were done. I was ready to go. then I heard the words I hate. Mom said, "Daisy needs her nails clipped ."

ARF, ARF, ARF. I'd show them. meanies!  ARF, ARF, ARF. (Mom and dad didn't know I could use swearwords .)

I think that the Vet was very proud of himself.  But I showed him my teeth and scared him.  Little did he know that I wouldn't really bite him,  But he hurt me.  My toenail bled.  When he tried to put antiseptic and my nail, I bucked.  He got scared again and had mom put a muzzle on me. That didn't last long, it was humiliating.  I pawed it off in record time.  But in the meantime, the Vet won that round.  He got the medication on me.

For good measure, I showed him my teeth again. he went slinking to the back room. I walked out of the examination room proudly.

I am not a mean dog. I just  don't like having my feet touched. Do you like being manhandled?
I sure don't.  . ARF, ARF, ARF.

P.S.   This new voice recognition program is fun.   It even automatically bleeps out the bad words.
